Introduction to the Process Similarity Premade Widget
The Process Cloud widget is a premade iframe-based widget that allows you to insert a Process Similarity box on any page that supports iframes. By simply including one line of iframe code, the Process Similarity box will appear on the page with similarity calculations reflecting the most recent updates to the database.
What is Process Similarity?
Process Similarity is a calculation based on the proprietary formula used in the Request for Discovery/Supplier Discovery system. Similarity calculations are used to determine how similar two processes are to each other, based on their location in the RfD Taxonomy. Closely-related processes will have a higher similarity score, and distantly-related processes will have a lower similarity score. The range of similarity scores is from 0.0 to 1.0.
Process Similarity Widget Overview
The Process Similarity widget has two sections: a Target Process section and a Similarity Cloud section. The Target Process section, displayed on the left, allows you to select a specific process that you would like to compare to other processes using the similarity formula. Light-grey entries are end-node processes (i.e., they have no child processes) and can be selected, whereas dark-grey entries are not end-node processes and cannot be selected.
When a Target Process is selected, the Similarity Cloud section, displayed on the right, will be populated with all of the processes (both end-node and non-end-node) in the RfD Taxonomy that have a similarity score of at least 0.2. The font size of each process reflects its similarity score, with larger font sizes corresponding to higher scores. You can also hover your mouse pointer over each entry, and a tooltip will appear with the similarity score.
Important Note Regarding Process Similarities
Because of certain qualities of the proprietary Process Similarity function, results are not commutative. In other words, there will be different similarity values for a calculation based on Process A -> Process B, and Process B -> Process A.
The Process Similarity widget can be added in a variety of sizes to fit the design and layout of your page. Two possible sizes are shown below, with the appropriate HTML code to add them.
Example of 100% width and 600px height:
1 <iframe style="width:100%; height:600px;" src="//static.eresourcecenter.org/erapi/widgets/processSimilarityCloud.html" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Example of 400px by 300px:
1 <iframe style="width:400px; height:300px;" src="//static.eresourcecenter.org/erapi/widgets/processSimilarityCloud.html" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Displaying Similarities for One Process
The widget can also be "locked" to one process by passing a "process" parameter to the iframe source, as shown in the example below that is locked to Drilling (using the small suggested size).
1 <iframe style="width:400px; height:300px;" src="//static.eresourcecenter.org/erapi/widgets/processSimilarityCloud.html?process=drilling" frameborder="0"></iframe>
